Light over the city - Lighting on NEMO Amsterdam's new rooftop square
The NEMO Science Museum in Amsterdam, designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop, has a completely renovated roof terrace. A terrace where nature and science come together, with stunning views of our capital city.
Commissioned by Hollander Techniek from Almere, we realised the lighting management system that perfectly combines atmosphere, functionality and automation.
Scattered throughout the garden, 75 white LED luminaires are subtly placed among the planting, providing atmospheric and even lighting of the garden. In addition, 73 RGB LED drivers have been integrated into the steps of the terrace, which control colourful RGB LED strips for a dynamic lighting effect.
The complete installation, consisting of some 150 luminaires, is controlled fully automatically by three Helvar 910 routers. The lighting is programmed in four scenes controlled based on astronomical time. For added flexibility, users can manually adjust lighting and scenes via a touchscreen.
The programming and setup of the lighting scenes were commissioned by Studiowarmerdam - Spektor licht, under the guidance of lighting designer Maarten Warmerdam.
