Lighting management systems play a fundamental role in achieving building standards and certifications. By choosing the right system, a building can be future-proofed because adjustments can be made at any time. In addition, a light management system also makes a strong positive contribution to energy efficiency and to the well-being of people in the building.
We have prepared a document that provides a handy overview of the points our systems can contribute to for achieving BREEAM, LEED and Well certification.
BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) is the most established and recognisable environmental assessment system for projects, infrastructure and buildings. BREEAM awards certifications based on assessments of a space's performance, according to current best-practices.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a certification system developed by the US Green Building Council. It is designed to assess building performance against benchmarks, with the aim of encouraging sustainable building design by applying a recognised standard.
The WELL Building Standard™ is a leading global rating system that focuses on the ways in which buildings, and everything in them, can improve comfort and promote health and well-being - a benchmark for optimal building performance.
A central consideration in standards such as LEED and BREEAM is the environmental performance of your building. By aiming for such building standards, you improve the sustainability your building in practice. With net zero targets and ever-increasing pressure from stakeholders, building standards provide you with a realistic framework to achieve energy-efficient spaces to save money.
Building standards (such as the WELL Building Standard) put people first and place a major emphasis on health and well-being by looking at indoor environmental quality from different perspectives. Concepts include, but are not limited to: lighting, air, thermal comfort, ergonomics, water, sound, materials and features such as access to nature.Building standards provide an excellent framework for evaluating your building's performance and assessing its impact on the people in your building.
To meet building standards, the use of smart technologies is often a prerequisite. Lighting system requirements such as circadian design, daylight control and presence detection are much more achievable by applying smart control systems. Such smart technologies are in most cases designed to last throughout the life of the building, allowing you to upgrade or adapt your space to future changes.
